Only a month has passed since the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, but the first conclusions about his economic policy can be drawn. Donald Trump has begun to promptly implement his election promises, which in fact repeat his own main steps of eight years ago: reducing tax pressure, reducing the volume of regulatory procedures, preferential offers for industrial production, public investment in infrastructure projects (such as the allocation of $500 billion for the development of artificial intelligence systems), protecting the domestic market through the introduction of new duties and tariffs, etc.
At the same time, these changes are accompanied by a series of consultations with experts in the relevant fields, which is part of the American tradition of public policy. This political culture could be learned by Ukrainian MPs, who are also inclined to introduce very "revolutionary" changes in the tax area, but do not always listen to the relevant community.
The US President recently held one of the first such consultations with representatives of the gambling industry. In order to present the key priorities of his tax reform, Donald Trump arrived at Circa Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, where he met with members of the American Gaming Association (AGA).
The main topics for discussion were tax priorities, such as the tax threshold for slot machines and the excise tax on sports betting. A special place was taken by the discussion on the role of the gambling industry in stimulating economic growth and creating new jobs.
The participants also discussed the priority of initiatives to comply with the principles of responsible gambling and the fight against illegal operators. In particular, it was mentioned that in 2024, the AGA won a legal victory over illegal slot machines in Virginia.
AGA CEO Bill Miller said in his remarks: "Today's event is a testament to the President's commitment to ensuring that the tax code not only encourages job creation, but also provides workers with the opportunity to keep more of their hard-earned money."
In this way, he additionally drew the attention of the meeting participants to the fact that the US gambling business contributes to the creation of jobs and the growth of welfare of employees in related sectors of the economy.
The panelists also recalled the previous support that US gambling received from President Trump during his first term, including federal economic measures that helped casinos recover from the effects of Covid-19 closures.
Despite the fact that the operation of the gambling market in Ukraine and the United States is quite different due to different legislative frameworks, different regulatory mechanisms, different traditions and history of the industry, the problematic issues are very similar: a complex taxation system, dramatic changes in the industry due to the coronavirus pandemic, and a high level of social responsibility for companies... But the biggest and most important problem of the industry, whether in the United States or Ukraine, is the problem of illegal operators, which has only become more acute after a significant part of the gambling industry moved from offline to online.
And in this area, it is worth establishing cooperation between our countries, both at the level of government agencies and at the level of specialised associations. Fighting illegal operators is a common cause and a common interest of the state and legal business.
