Like the majority of national, international and multinational companies leaving the Russian Federation, stopping the supply of goods and services to Russia or revoking franchises and licenses, gambling operators are following a similar path by freezing their activities in the aggressor country.
In addition, gambling community representatives raise and donate funds both to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to specialized charitable foundations and public organizations helping refugees and internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
It is encouraging that UGC member, namely SBC (Sports and Betting Community) is among active representatives of the international fund-raising movement for the Ukrainian people.
At the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, SBC CEO and founder, Rasmus Sojmark, noted: “The global gambling industry is a family and what has become clear over the past few days is the strength of responsibility it feels in providing assistance to the people of Ukraine. Most gambling organisations conducted business in the region, or employed people from Ukraine, shared a drink with them and above all have made friends with them.”
He also addressed all SBC website visitors, emphasizing:
“We are against war. It causes death of innocent people, destroys human lives and breeds misfortunes. In this tragic situation, our team stands together with Ukrainian friends, in particular by trying to fulfil our mission with dignity!”
It should be noted that the SBC social initiative “Gaming Industry for Ukraine” donates the raised funds to the Choose Love fund supporting refugee projects. With this money, people are provided with emergency medical care, as well as food, housing, clothing, legal and psychological support.
“We hope to raise GBP 250,000 this week and will continue to provide assistance, which of course will depend on the gambling industry continuing to show Ukraine its support, particularly financial one,” said Rasmus Sojmark.
As of the beginning of the week, more than GBP 206,000 of the planned amount was raised. One may see the amount of collected funds on this gofundme link. Today, all international businesses and the whole world are uniting around Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.inian people.
